About the Bag
The Welkin Bag can be made as a crossbody or as a backpack with both construction methods demonstrated in the written instructions as well as the videos that accompany this pattern. The large Flap of the bag is a wonderful focal point to show off a small panel, print, or a beautiful tag or piece of hardware. The visually pleasing Handle and Anchor above the flap gives the bag a unique and unified shape. In addition to the distinctive Flap, Welkin also has wonderfully unique Connectors and a pleasing curvy shape. The body of the bag is meant to be soft but not slouchy while the Anchor is built to be structured and strong. Make this bag from all cotton, or go with a soft, pliable vinyl, faux leather or cork. The inside has a slip pocket, a zipper pocket and the bag carries a good amount in the main compartment where you’ll find a nice fitting liner. This bag is constructed using a super easy and fast drop in liner method which means the bag doesn’t have to be overly compressed through a turn opening.

- Exterior Vinyl/Faux Leather/Cork/Cotton - 1yrd (from 54” WOF)
- Liner Material - 1/2yrd (from 54” WOF)
- Decovil Light - 1/2yrd (from 17” WOF) OR 1/4yrd (from 35” WOF)
- Fusible Fleece (Thermolam Plus TP971F) - 1/4yrd (from 45” WOF)
- Medium Weight Fusible Woven Interfacing like SF101-enough for all cotton materials. For a fully cotton bag: 1/2yrd SF101 (from 60" WOF) OR 2yrd SF101 (from 20” WOF)
- 1” D-Rings or O-Rings - x2 (or x6 for the Backpack option)
- 3/4” or 1” Swivel Clasp - x2 (or x6 for the Backpack option)
- 3/4” or 1” Strap Slider - x1 (or x3 for the Backpack option)
- Magnetic Snap - x1, any size up to 19mm is acceptable
- #5 Zipper, 10” - x1, plus 1 zipper pull
- Rivets - x20 (8mm post length). *2 of the rivets may need to be 10mm post length depending on the thickness of your material.* 8mm or 9mm cap size is best
- Double Sided Tape (1/4” wide or less is best)
- Disappearing marking pen or chalk, Fray Check, Super Glue, Duct Tape
- Rivet Installation equipment (press, or hand tools)

- Fusible Fleece (Thermolam Plus TP971F) - 1/4m (from 114cm WOF)
- Medium Weight Fusible Woven Interfacing like SF101-enough for all cotton materials. For a fully cotton bag: 1/2m SF101 (from 152cm WOF) OR 2m SF101 (from 51cm WOF)
- 25mm D-Rings or O-Rings - x2 (or x6 for the Backpack option)
- 20mm or 25mm Swivel Clasp - x2 (or x6 for the Backpack option)
- 20mm or 25mm Strap Slider - x1 (or x3 for the Backpack option)
- Magnetic Snap - x1, any size up to 19mm is acceptable
- #5 Zipper, 25cm x1, plus 1 zipper pull
